Honorable Senior Secretary
Mr. Akhter Ahmed joined the Bangladesh Election Commission Secretariat as Senior Secretary on December 05, 2024.
He was born into a prestigious Muslim family in Khulna city. After obtaining a Master's degree in Economics from Rajshahi University, he completed an MBA (Finance) from the IBA, University of Dhaka. Later, he earned an MS degree in Economic Policy and Planning from the Institute of Social Studies, Netherlands.
He is an officer of the 1982 batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration) cadre.
He served as Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and the Economic Relations Division, and as Deputy General Manager (Administration) at Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
Mr. Akhter served as Senior Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Public Administration and as "Program Manager" of the Family Health Research Project under ICDDRB on lien.
Subsequently, he served as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Public Administration, Joint Secretary (Administration) in the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, and Joint Secretary (Political) in the Ministry of Home Affairs. His career is a unique blend of administrative and instructional responsibilities. During his illustrious career, he led the Bangladesh delegation in the Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) negotiations regarding the Bangladesh-India border. Additionally, he conducted various trainings and seminars at the BCS (Administration) Training Centre and the Public Administration Computer Center (PACC).
He retired from the Ministry of Public Administration as Joint Secretary (Administration) in March 2015.
Mr. Ahmed After retiring from government service served as a faculty member in the MBA Program at East West University and the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) in Dhaka for a long period. He was highly popular as a teacher. His students continue to make their mark in various parts of the country and the world.
During his professional life, he traveled to various countries including the UK, USA, Singapore, Korea, Brazil, India, and Switzerland for various training and professional duties.
